• Description:

The Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel is offering a PhD position focused on investigating the genetic and cellular basis of vertebrate limb organogenesis, specifically in the context of congenital malformations and evolutionary adaptations. This opportunity is ideal for candidates passionate about developmental biology, evolution, and congenital malformation research.

The research focuses on uncovering the functions of distinct limb progenitor cell populations in generating digit patterns, and exploring developmental plasticity of progenitors using advanced CRISPR/Cas9 technology. This study aims to bridge knowledge gaps in understanding limb development and evolution.

    Qualifications

    1. MSc degree in molecular biology, developmental biology/mouse embryology, or genetics.
    2. Preferred: Candidates with experience in any of the above fields.
    3. Bonus: Knowledge or interest in bioinformatics is an additional asset.
